It’s been a while since I’ve posted! The news is all good so far. The kitten got to come home on Wednesday! She’s been living in my bedroom and bathroom while I keep my other cat in the kitchen and living room. She walks around just fine on pain killers, and we’re hoping she continues to be okay as they wear off today. We’re looking at about 2-3 weeks for recovery of the fractured hip plate.
Bathroom habits seem to be good. She’s pooping in her litter box, but I haven’t seen her pee yet. Her anal tone is returning, but her tail still drags along the ground. Apparently it can take 2-3 months for that to happen. If she doesn’t regain control of it, amputation might be something I need to look into.
My girlfriend’s mother made a comment about how she looks like a Buttercup. My girlfriend loved the name, and kept begging me to name her Buttercup. I couldn’t think of a better name and caved, so she’s Buttercup.

I know the pain, I had to get three of my cats put to sleep in 2014, they were all old, 15 to nearly 19 years old and it one was undiagnosed underlying conditions, one was found Ill in a neighbours garden. The third one was a long drawn out saga when she was very ill around December 2013 but we caught her thyroid problem in time and controlled it with medication but a side effect was that it affected her balance. She then went missing months later. I was sure that she was dead but I called around some vets in the hope that someone took her in (dead or alive) and she wasn’t chipped. Six days after she was taken in I collected her, after seven days cats that can’t be rehomed because they are ill are put down, I got there in the nick of time. Sadly a few months later her health took a turn for the worse and she had to be put down.
These three cats were the last remaining survivors of cats that we had since I was a little kid (the oldest was nearly 19 and at the time I was 22, I literally grew up with this cat) and the thing that really rubbed salt in the wounds? They all passed in the same month and I had to pay the vet bills, I’m from a poor family but I had an ok job so I paid it, I couldn’t make my dad do it, he couldn’t afford it.
December 2014 we took in a cat from a family that got evicted from their home his name is Tom and he is about 6, despite my initial fears of it being too soon after the other three he has proven to be a good member of the family, I don’t regret it. I’m glad you took Buttercup in, you are doing a great thing.
Typing this comment has made me, a grown ass man, cry.

You’re doing awesome things dude ! We found one of my cats, Owen, when she was two days old in the hull of a old wood boat after her mother had abandoned her. The owner was going to kill off all the cats the next day, so we had to take her in. We’ve raised her since then and after ~$2000 in vet bills, it’s still worth it.
